Hello, dog lovers! Welcome to this month's edition of Daisy's Bark.
June is here, bringing sunshine, blooming flowers, and plenty of wag-worthy moments! As summer kicks off, it's the perfect time to enjoy longer walks, outdoor adventures, and quality time with your furry best friend. In this month's newsletter, we’re sharing seasonal tips to keep your pup safe and cool, fun activity ideas, and a few fun facts to help you make the most of these sunny days together.
Daisy's Cause is a little over $1500.00 for Companion Animal Care, a non profit rescue dedicated to senior citizens. They provide vital services to ensure these cherished animals receive the care and attention they need.
While Daisy is taking a summer break from the craft fairs, we still find ways to keep her happy. Daisy's favorite thing to do on her morning walk is attack sprinklers. She loves to run through them and bite at the water. Another thing we let her do on our walks is sniff and explore everything. Here's why...our walks together are for her. Dogs are not getting what they need when we assume there's nothing to smell just because we can't see it. A dog's nose is far more sensitive than ours, and scent is how they can make sense of the world around them.
To keep Daisy happy, we also make sure she has plenty of time "off leash". For us, that's at the beach. She absolutely loves playing in the ocean and catching the frisbee in the breaking waves. She can't get enough! It's important to take your dog someplace where they can wander, but still know where you are. If possible, let your dog roll and chase something, smell the environment and have a chance to run free. Check out your local dog park or a dog friendly beach.
We also continue to train Daisy through various methods, like a snuffle mat. They keeps her busy and her mind sharp. Canine cognition expert Alexandra Horowitz, PhD, suggests interactive feeders that require your dog to complete a task for a treat. Your pup may be a pampered pet, but your dog is a natural hunter or herder and sniffing, searching and strategizing to find food will provide a taste of the wild and strengthen her mind.
Thank you so much to Michael @ meissnerfineart.com for the beautiful oil painting of Daisy. It's our absolute favorite picture in the house!
