Pawsitively Spring: How to Keep Your Pet Happy and Healthy This May

Pawsitively Spring: How to Keep Your Pet Happy and Healthy This May

Spring is in full swing, and May is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather with your pet! Whether you have a playful pup, a curious cat, or a small critter who loves to sunbathe by the window, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the season together. Here are some fun and practical tips to help your furry friend thrive this month:

1. Springtime Safety Check
As flowers bloom and bugs return, it’s important to protect your pet. Be sure flea, tick, and heart worm preventatives are up to date, and keep an eye out for toxic plants or allergens during walks or outdoor playtime.

2. Outdoor Adventures
May is ideal for more time outside! Try new walking routes, schedule a hike, or set up a mini agility course in your backyard. Cats can enjoy the fresh air too—consider a leash and harness or a screened-in “catio.”

3. Hydration Is Key
Rising temperatures mean your pet will need extra hydration. Always have fresh water available, especially during and after outdoor activities.

4. Grooming Season
Shedding tends to increase in spring. Regular brushing helps reduce loose fur and keeps your pet's coat healthy. It's also a great time for a bath or professional grooming.

5. Seasonal Treats
Treat your pet to fresh, seasonal goodies—like frozen fruit for dogs (think blueberries or banana slices) or new toys that encourage exercise and mental stimulation.

6. Plan for Summer Travel
If you’re planning a vacation, now’s a good time to prepare. Make sure your pet's microchip info is current and that any travel crates or carriers are clean and comfy.

Celebrate National Pet Week (May 5–11, 2025)
Don’t forget—May also includes National Pet Week! It’s a great excuse to shower your pet with a little extra love and appreciation.
